10. Apple's CEO Tim Cook Is The First (And Only) Openly Gay Person In The Fortune 500
Tim Cook joined Apple in 1998 as senior vice-president of worldwide operations, moving up to executive vice-president of worldwide sales and operations and then to chief operating office - before finally being named chief executive officer (CEO) in August 2011. Also a board member at Nike and the National Football Foundation, Cook became the first CEO of a Fortune 500 company - the 500 companies in the US with the highest gross revenue - to reveal that he is gay. No other CEO of any of the Fortune 500 companies has since come out as homosexual, meaning Cook is the first and only to do so to date.
