6. When He Was First Elected Governor Of Arkansas In January 1979, He Was The Youngest Governor In The US At The Time
In 1978 Clinton ran for the governorship of Arkansas at the age of just 32 - having already unsuccessfully attempted to be elected to the House of Representatives in the state's Third Congressional District four years previously - and won. Very few politicians in their early-30s reach a position of such power so soon, and in the process of winning Clinton became the youngest of all the US Governors at the time. Clinton would lose his gubernatorial election in 1980, but then returned to office in 1982 - and served as Governor of his home state for the next nine years, before launching his presidential campaign in 1991.
