12. The First Starbucks Outside Of The USA Or Canada Opened In Tokyo In 1996... And Almost A Third Of All Stores Now Lie Outside Of America

Starbucks may be a global business now, but before 1996 there was not a single outlet outside of North America. Yet in that year the company opened their first coffee shop in Tokyo, Japan. Now the company has more than 1,700 stores in China, more than 1,000 in Japan and more than 800 in Britain. All in all, almost a third of all Starbucks outlets now lie outside of the USA and Canada nowadays, as opposed to the 0% outside of North America in the mid-1990s.
