20 Mind-Blowing Facts About Starbucks

5. Until 1987, The Mermaid In The Starbucks Logo Had Her Breasts On Show

The Starbucks logo pictured above may look like some sort of mock imitation of the current symbol used by the company - but that is actually the original logo used on all of the brand's products. Yes, a mermaid in a suggestive pose and with her breasts hanging out - a 16th-Century Norse woodcut of a twin-tailed siren, to be precise - was Starbucks' original logo until 1987. The second edition of the logo, used between 1987 and 1992, then featured a siren with her breasts covered by her flowing hair - although her belly button was still visible. A third version used between 1992 and 2011 did not have either the siren's breasts or belly button visible. Finally, in January 2011, Starbucks removed their name from around the siren and enlarged the image, making it completely green with white inside. Interestingly though, Starbucks caused much outrage in 2006 and then again in 2008 when they reintroduced the original logo for a period - due to the fact the siren's breasts were again on show.
