On paper, it doesn€™t sound particularly controversial: a singer dubbed the €œQueen of Hip-hop soul€, who has previously had endorsement contracts with Chevrolet, Apple and American Express, extols the virtues of fast food in song. Yet when Mary J Blige recorded an ad for Burger King€™s Chicken Snack wraps in 2012, commentators felt that an African-American singing about €œCris-py Chick-en€ reinforced racial stereotypes. Blige later remarked that the ad was supposed to be part of a €œfun and creative campaign€ and that the released version was €œunfinished€, to which Burger King responded by pulling the spot, citing €œlicensing issues.€
