On paper, it doesnt sound particularly controversial: a singer dubbed the Queen of Hip-hop soul, who has previously had endorsement contracts with Chevrolet, Apple and American Express, extols the virtues of fast food in song. Yet when Mary J Blige recorded an ad for Burger Kings Chicken Snack wraps in 2012, commentators felt that an African-American singing about Cris-py Chick-en reinforced racial stereotypes. Blige later remarked that the ad was supposed to be part of a fun and creative campaign and that the released version was unfinished, to which Burger King responded by pulling the spot, citing licensing issues.
