14. Bombproof Restaurants
Prior to the war in Afghanistan and the invasion of Iraq, American embassies and oil companies were the main targets of anti-US demonstrations, but all of that changed in 2002 when Burger Kings in Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Bahrain and Lebanon were attacked. In fact, so many branded restaurants were bombed that BK installed ceiling tiles capable of absorbing bomb shrapnel, shatterproof glass and, to protect against car bombs, large outdoor containers made of cement and planted with flowers.
