7. The Government Spends 9.4 Cents For Every Nickel It Makes

Due to inflation, American coinage has nosedived in popularity with her citizens. First it was the penny (the copper-colored fellow depicting Abraham Lincoln) that seemed valueless, but now the nickel (the silvered-colored odd-coin-out of American currency depicting Thomas Jefferson) isn't far behind. In fact, for almost a decade America has lost money on every nickel her government mints. The nickel has a face value of $0.05, but costs about twice as much as that to make. Don't worry, they plan on making it up with volume.
