1. The First Day Of The Year
So it begins again. You walk into the school, students milling about nervously (first years) or with swaggering confidence (final years). Regardless of spreadsheets, quality, lesson plans, its about the teaching. Its about the love of the job. Yes, there are down points. Every job has them. Teaching, and dealing with young people desperate to understand new ideas and concepts, is what its all about. Laughing with them, supporting them when theyre down, congratulating them when they succeed. That year of teacher training was worth it for the job of helping young people aspire to their dreams. You enter the class and smile as Barry, Gary and Carrie sit nervously in their new class. Youre in charge now. You can do anything. Mould them in any way possible. Youre in charge. So, what do you do? Some ice-breakers and an introduction to the course guide, just like youll do ever year until you retire. Maybe youll even get them to talk about themselves for a few minutes. The cycle of teaching. Some things never change.
