Got a scratched CD that doesn't work? Clean it with toothpaste! Sounds like a joke right? It's not. Life hacks are little ways to make our lives easier. These often low-budget tips and tricks can help you organise and de-clutter space; prolong and preserve your products; or teach you something (e.g. how to tie a full Windsor knot) that you simply did not know before. The internet is bursting with reportedly ingenious hacks. Some seem too good to be true and fail spectacularly when you give them a try. However there is a rare breed of crazy-sounding life hacks that when tested out actually work. I have unashamedly fist-pumped on more that one occasion when a dubious hack came to fruition.
20. Use School Glue To Remove Splinters
Got a splinter? Pour a small amount of white school glue on the area and then let it dry. When you peel it off the splinter should come right out. This is a great method to use on children.
19. Use A Tin Of Crisco Fat To Make A Candle That Burns For Hours In An Emergency
Candles are always good to have on hand in case the power goes out, but if you get caught without any in your house, you can make a dead simple candle with a tub of fat and a piece of string. Just put a piece of string in the middle, and light it up. Not only will it burn, it'll last for 45 days; enough to get you through a zombie apocalypse or two. Many tutorials recommend using a candle wick, but you should be able to use regular old string.
18. Use Toothpaste To Heal Zits
Did a zit rear its ugly head all of a sudden? Toothpaste does more than help you achieve a winning smile. When dabbed on a pimple, toothpaste can get rid of it by morning. It is drying and basically works like a clay mask, it dehydrates the pimple and absorbs the oil, be careful not to use whitening toothpaste however, as they often contain hydrogen peroxide which can irritate the skin.
17. Light Candles With Spaghetti
Most of us have burned our fingers a time or two trying to light candles in their various incarnations. However If you don't have extra-long matches, use an uncooked piece of spaghetti to light multiple or hard to reach candles. This is cheap, easy and very effective.
