20 Ridiculous Things Which Make You Proud Of Being Scottish
10. Our National Animal Is Jaggy As Hell!
The will to inflict injuries and impalements run deep within Scottish culture. We've already seen how violent our motto is and how fraught with danger falling on a patch of our national plant might be but perhaps the pointiest of all our national symbols is our national animal: the Unicorn. Yes, you read that right. Ever since the 12th Century, the Unicorn has been viewed as the national animal of the Scots. Our well noted fascination with myth and legend is at work here. The Unicorn and the Lion had long fought to be head of the animal kingdom and Scotland's Unicorn went up against the mighty Lion of England through centuries of conflict. Needless to say the real animal won. That's probably why there's that "rebellious Scots to crush" line in the national anthem.
