Sir Arthur Aston was a professional soldier who is well known for his loyalty to King Charles I during the English Civil War. Unfortunately his dedication to the army, to his King and country are overlooked by the manner of his death which is more famous than his dedicated career as a soldier. He died in 1649 during the siege of Drogheda where the enemy didn't commit to a parley and he and other soldiers were massacred when they surrendered and gave up their weapons. Sir Aston was killed by his own wooden leg which the enemy believed to conceal gold coins.
