2016 Presidential Election: 20 WTF Moments
7. Evan McMullin Joins The Race Months Too Late
At the beginning of August, conservative candidate Evan McMullin joined the presidential race, leading a group of Republicans who had no faith in Trump's abilities to lead the party.
Unfortunately, while he did surge ahead in the polls following the October leak of that infamous audio recording (which we'll get to later), he was ultimately a too little, too late candidate, and didn't even defeat Trump in Utah, where he was faring rather well initially.
With McMullin starting a campaign so late, he missed the registration deadline for a whole 26 states, ensuring the whole thing was a fools' errand beyond illustrating that there was clear Republican dissent against Trump.
