20GB iCloud Storage Plan Extended 38 Years
Sunday, September 30th, was supposed to mark the end of my 20GB storage upgrade on iCloud. But when I checked my account I found it was still good. Whats all this then? Then the little voice that keeps my life interesting said, Shut up, dolt! A bank error in your favor is an error in YOUR FAVOR. Move along. Move along. And so I did. Then, as I was perusing my tech RSS feeds, I came upon an article mentioning that others have noticed that their iCloud storage was still active, and would continue to be until September 30, 2050. What? What? What? Taken at face value, it would appear that MobileMe subscribers have had their storage upgrade continued for an additional 38 years. As of this writing I have not been able to confirm if this is in fact a benefit Apple is giving to MobileMe subscribers, or if it is a glitch in the system. I have heard from other MobileMe subscribers that they too have the extension. Call it naiveté, but with all the hoopla around the Maps debacle, its nice to have some good news to report. So, for the moment I am hoping the reason is the former rather than the latter. To check if you have the supplementary storage, on your iOS device go to Settings --> iCloud --> Account. In the middle of the pop up, under the Storage Plan section, it will tell you when your plan ends (see image above). I will be keeping an eye on this and will report back as soon as I hear something definitive. Now Ill ask you, reader, were you a MobileMe subscriber? If so, did you get the extension for your iCloud storage? Let us know in the comments section below.
