Considering Nolan's untouchable status (and his usually gold-plated critical reception), Interstellar was a misstep of epic proportions.
The film - a glossy ode to space porn - devolved from a compelling, old-fashioned sci-fi movie into an impenetrable, ludicrous mess thanks to a silly ending that felt like both an invitation to criticise and a two fingered salute to the critics.
Despite having scientists on board, the time travelly, worm-holey hooey ignored causality and internal logic to open plot holes as wide as its singularity.
Yes it looked pretty, but the ending felt reactionary and consciously obtuse, and the "it was us all along" was just unfathomable manure.
