22 Mind-Blowing Facts About George W Bush

1. Bush Was The First Republican In US History To Be Elected President Without Winning Vermont Or Illinois, Or To Receive No Electoral Votes From California

George W Bush won the 2000 US Presidential election via the electoral college, but he lost the popular vote - and he also became the first Republican in history to claim the White House without carrying three (normally) vitally-important states. No Republican President aside from Bush has ever been elected without winning the states of Vermont and Illinois. Also, no winning Republican has ever failed to receive a single electoral vote from California - James A Garfield claimed just one, however. Interestingly, Garfield is also the only other Republican to have been elected to the Oval Office without winning California - meaning Bush's victory in November 2000 was all the more unusual.
