8. Nixon Hosted The Largest Dinner Ever Held At The White House... For Returning American PoWs From Vietnam
On May 24, 1973, Nixon welcomed home US PoWs from Vietnam following America's withdrawal after the signing of the Paris Peace Accords - with the largest dinner ever held at the White House. A total of 1,300 guests were on the White House's South Lawn for the dinner - including 591 PoWs, one of who was former Republican presidential candidate John McCain - which included All-American fare of sirloin steak, fingerling potatoes and a dessert of strawberry mousse.
