During the height of the Watergate Scandal, The New York Times printed verbatim transcripts of the tapes Nixon used to record Oval Office conversations in the White House. The paper, which usually shunned the use of obscenities, felt compelled to print the whole conversations word-for-word and verbatim, meaning that swear words such as "s**t" and "f**k" used by President Nixon were written out in full.
