AC Smith - AKA Arthur Conan Doyle - played in goal for amateur side Portsmouth Association Football Club during the 1880s while he was living in Southsea. This club is not associated with present-day Portsmouth FC, however, who were founded in 1898 - two years after the amateur side in the city had been disbanded.
