14. Other People's Dogs Are Not For Patting

There are dogs everywhere. They're allowed on public transport, in shops, at your feet at a lot of cafes. Your instincts will be to pat them. In Australia, after a polite smile at the dog's owner, you are welcome to pat the animal and then engage the owner in discussion over what a good dog they are. In London, patting stranger's dogs is a faux pas. Though apparently the dogs don't know that. They'll still wander over, tail wagging, and you will be forced to keep your hands in your lap. It makes no sense but here we are.
