23 Problems Only Journalists Will Understand

6. When You Come Face To Face With Someone You've Done A Particularly Negative Story About

Awwwwkward. Being a journalist means you simply cannot hide. Your name is on everything, and sometimes your face too. It also means you can tell the truth: you can report injustice and literally write the wrongs in the world. Not everyone is gonna thank you for it though.

5. When An Editor Cuts Out An Anecdote You Were Secretly Proud Of

Pow! Right in the feels. Like mother hen, never being able to see her chick's blossom. No matter how rigorous you are about sticking to the word count, lines you've lovingly sweat over are inevitably gobbled by the delete key. Golden puns given an eviction order; juicy quotes thrown to the dogs. Ouch.

4. REALLY Wanting To Use A Fact But Not Being Able To Verify It

The Internet is a breeding ground of gossip and lies. The sheer amount of malicious celebrity death rumours, fake stories and photoshopped images on the web are the reasons we have trust issues. If you didn't see the world through a skeptical lens then you've become a basic drone, simply regurgitating press releases. It does mean that we're obsessively religious about sourcing facts - to the point of compromising our own sanity.
