The list combined crime rates, house prices and school performances with local knowledge and expertise. Towns were also selected for the quality of life they offer, with community spirit, shops and services, and outdoor spaces all considered. With shops being the only glaring exception, the mighty Peth excels in all of those areas you'd have to agree. Morpeth, which was the only town in Northumberland to make the prestigious list, was also named 'Britain In Bloom Best Town' last year as the national honours and recognition kept rolling in.
