The noughties saw the rise of the comic book movie, with the likes of the X-Men franchise, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and the Marvel Cinematic Universe beginning (and, in some cases, ending) in the decade. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is undoubtedly the biggest of the lot and that started in 2008 with a brilliant performance from a revitalised Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark AKA Iron Man.
