4 Times Harrison Ford Cheated Death (And 4 Times He Was A Hero)
8. 1999 Helicopter Crash
As far as cheating death is concerned, falling out of the sky is probably one of the toughest ways to do it. While air travel is statistically safe, once you're in trouble, you don't exactly have a lot of options for survival. So it may surprise you that Harrison Ford has survived a serious mishap in the air at least once before - in 1999, when the helicopter he was piloting during a training mission in Santa Clara, California crashed and flipped over. While attempting an autorotation with powered recovery during the training session, Ford let the craft's altitude drop too low before powering up, and the chopper was unable to regain power and hit the ground hard. It then skidded forward in loose gravel, hit a log, and flipped over. Thankfully neither Ford nor his instructor were hurt, though the helicopter was badly damaged. Asked about the incident on Inside The Actor's Studio, Ford stated "I broke it."
