5 Best Irvine Welsh Novels
4. Porno (2002)
Sticking with the Trainspotting theme, the next novel in the list is the sequel to it, Porno. This novel is set 10 years after Trainspotting and once again features the main characters from the previous works; however a lot of things have changed since we'd last seen them. Gone are the days of heroin addiction and petty crime and it seems the boys have finally grown up into slightly more respectable members of society; well, as much as you can expect from the gang from Edinburgh. Sick Boy is still obsessed with girls and money, Begbie is still as crazy as violent as ever and Renton is his usual aloof self although he has managed to escape away to Amsterdam to become big on the house music scene; but all of this changes through a variety of events and they all become involved in the underground porn industry. It is great novel in the fact is has allowed us to see where the characters have gone over the 10 years since the last story, but it still doesn't live up to the brilliance of its predecessor. Robert Carlyle has also confirmed at Comic-Con this year that the film version is Porno is going to happen, although Danny Boyle has stated it won't be released until 2016 if it does get made.
