5 Doomsday Predictions We Can Look Forward To (And 3 In The Distant Future)
2. A Super Volcanic Eruption Within 1 Million Years
The Geological Society of London predicts that a volcanic super eruption will devastate the earth within the next 1 million years much like the Toba super eruption that took place 75000 years ago. The Toba super eruption caused a global volcanic winter that lasted almost an entire decade and sent the earth into a 1,000 year cooling period.
Geologists believe the most vulnerable locations to fall victim to a super eruption are North and South America, as well as Asia and Europe. But regardless of where the volcano erupts, the entire world would be dramatically altered as huge amounts of gases and ash thrown into the stratosphere during the eruption would deflect the sun’s rays and thrust the planet into a volcanic winter.
The Geological Society also points out that though it’s feasible to develop technology in the future to destroy or deflect asteroids threatening Earth, there are no known or even plausible methods for diverting a massive volcanic eruption.
As far as doomsday predictions, you can bet the house on super volcanic eruptions. It’s not a matter of if it will happen again but when will it happen again? The real question is if humanity will have averted all these aforementioned doomsday predictions (and many other unnamed disasters) to still be around when the next super volcano eruption occurs?
