5 Most Horrifying Real Life Serial Killing Couples
3. Ian Brady And Myra Hindley
Two of the most infamous serial killers in British history, this killing couple were responsible for the terrible 'Moors murders' in the mid 1960s, with five confirmed victims between 1963 and 1965. Glasgow-born Brady was a clever student who regularly acted out, appearing in court on charges of assault before his 18th birthday. Hindley grew up in Manchester, living between her parents' home and that of her grandmother, in an environment of violence created by and encouraged by her father. Myra and Ian met in 1961, when they were both working for a factory in Manchester. Myra's diary entries at the time indicate Myra became infatuated with Ian, and they began to date in December of the same year. Brady reportedly brought Hindley out of her hitherto modest and even prim shell, and she began to dress daringly and take explicit photos. By 1963, the couple - who had once fantasised about committing bank robberies - lived together and conversation had turned to serial killers and how to commit the perfect murder. They began their killing spree with 16 year old local girl Pauline Reade, and went on to murder and sexually assault four more children between the ages of 10 and 17. Hindley's role was key to the murders - she 'enticed' the children into a van she drove, bringing the victims to her partner. The pair buried their victims on the Moors. They were tracked down, confessed to the murders, and were both sentenced to life in prison. Hindley died in prison in 2002, ages 60. Brady remains incarcerated in a high-security hospital, having been declared criminally insane.
