4. Yabby Attack

For those of you whom are unaware, a "yabby" is an Australian freshwater crustacean commonly found in local dams and rivers. And they are good eatin', mmm mmm. But although they are pretty much harmless and non life threatening at all, they can cause a serious amount of pain. Which sometimes of course was hilarious if it wasn't happening to you. One such incident occured whilst us kids went "yabbying" one day by the local dam. One boy decided to go for a swim as it gets pretty hot out there (more on that later). Now against the better judgement of some of us other younglings he dove straight in and swam right out to the middle. Thiis was when we discovered that the dam was surprisingly abundant with yabbies and up he popped with about 5 of them stuck in various places. One of those (which was not actually visually verified as he was too busy running and screaming back to his house) was apparently locked right onto his genitals.

Oh yeah, you heard that right. I will give you a minute to stop wincing. Now although I have had my own experiences with the dreaded yabby claws, I felt this little incident that I witnessed first hand had the necessary impact I needed for this article. All was not lost though, we ended up returning to the dam in question and went home with a bucket full to the brim. It was good eatin' mmm mmm. (Side note: A stick dug into the ground with a little bit of fishing line dangling off the end into the water, only way to yabby)
