5 Places On Earth Where Gravity Doesn't Seem To Exist

2. Hoover Dam (Clark County, Nevada)

Rather appropriately, the Colorado River's Hoover Dam seems to be enveloped in a vacuum. Watch any of the many videos of tourists pouring the contents of bottles over the edge of the 750-foot barrier, and you'll see them flabbergasted as it flows upwards. It must be holy - God dam.

Or perhaps not. If the dam really is fringed with an anti-gravity field, why doesn't it likewise send the wowed water-wasters' caps flying? Or the amazed onlookers themselves?

Time for a little myth-dam-busting. Gravity is perfectly accounted for along the perimeter of Black Canyon's massive bulwark; it's actually the shape - and height - of the structure which creates an updraft, blowing the spilled refreshment skywards. Still an amazing spectacle, but nothing remotely spooky.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
