5 Reasons Why The Robot Uprising Is Inevitable

4. Even The Most Delicate Of Tasks Are Now Doable

A large problem with robots was the rigidity and hardness of the components, making simple but delicate tasks rather difficult. With the advent of ‘soft robots’, the robotics industry is being revolutionised.

No, soft robots aren’t the type that prefer a night in with candles and a bottle of wine, they are rather made up of soft and flexible components in order to move in very limited spaces, change gaits easily and perform delicate tasks.

Advancements like the Soft Robotics gripper can grip fruit and veg easily without damaging it, and Festo have developed a bionic arm inspired by the magnificent prehensile elephant trunk. It is made using 3D printing and uses pneumatics and hydraulics to produce smooth and flexible motion, capturing 11 degrees of movement and allowing the arm to pick up anything from eggs to wrenches.

Inevitably, it won’t be long until they end up attached to the back of an ambitious scientist, eventually corrupting his mind and making him into an agent for the uprising.

Joe Bayfield hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
