2. The Emancipation Proclamation Did Not Free All The Slaves
Contrary to popular opinion the Emancipation Proclamation was not law, it was an Executive Order which whilst a noble attempt, was not all that meaningful. It was issued by Lincoln not to in his desire to see slaves free but in his long war with the South. The order freed all slaves in the rebel states, states which at the time Lincoln had no jurisdiction. It applied to ten states and did not free the half a million slaves in border states.
