4. Like, Everything In America
The first humans were thought thought to have settle in the Americas after crossing over from Siberia via the
Beringia land bridge during the ice age. Apparently, we haven't changed much since then, as one of the first things we did was systematically wipe out any and all megafauna that was unfortunate enough to cross our path. This tends to fit the pattern of the disappearance of large fauna shortly after human settlement, ever since we left Africa. Research at the University of Wisconsin, closely analysed the contents of ancient animal droppings (someone's gotta do it) as well as the fossil record for the local plants and found that 50% of animals weighing more than 30 kilos and 100% of animals over 100 kilos were wiped out shortly after human settlement. This will have included things such as the Giant Ground Sloth, Mastodon and, yes, even the Mammoth. I mean, it makes sense. If you're a big, hungry prehistoric human, it makes sense to go for the animal with the most delicious meat on it but, still,
come on. This is why we can't have nice things. Specifically, majestic super-sized animals.
