6. The Paralysed Walk Again

No seriously, something that was considered so impossible that they made it one of Jesus' miracles has just happened in real life, thanks to science.

Through a combination of motorized exoskeletons and virtual reality therapy, eight paraplegics have been reclassified as only partially paralysed, and each patient showed recovery of voluntary muscle function and response to sensations such as touch and pain. In one of the most life-changing developments, many also regained bladder and bowel control.

Over the course of 12 months, the patients underwent a training regime involving immersive virtual reality and tactile feedback that essentially tricked their brains into believing that it could send signals to their limbs. In the second phase of the experiment, the participants were placed in an exoskeleton that moved their legs for them in response to brainwaves, further activating brain regions associated with leg movement. As a result, the signals started getting through and the participants gained control back over parts of their bodies they were told would never move again.
