7 Least Explored Places On Earth

2. Star Mountains, Papua New Guinea - An Untouched Paradise

So little is known about the Star mountains in Papua New Guinea, that the Wikipedia article on them is just 70 words long. Papua New Guinea itself is one of the least-explored places on Earth and the mountains are some of the most remote parts of it. Despite the fact that we don't actually have any weather data from the region (because its so unexplored, keep up), it's thought to be one of the wettest places on Earth. The few expeditions that have set out to explore them have discovered incredible biodiversity in a virtually untouched ecosystem. Those who want to have a look around need to hire a local shaman to guide them, as there aren't exactly many cheery tour guides there to carry your bags and show you to the nearest hotel. Along with the dozens of new species found there, a gigantic, wooly, cat-sized rat was among the 1,109 animal and plant species, almost 100 of which were previously unknown to science.
