That wall in your living room above the TV is looking bare. It’s the perfect spot for a hanging. You scour the interwebs for the perfect print, but everything seems cheesy and commonplace. You want something original and unique. Search no more and google ‘DNA portrait’. Because really, what can be more original and unique than your DNA?

DNA portraiture is the brainchild of lifelong mates Adrian Salamunovic and Nazim Ahmed. They founded DNA11, the original creator of DNA art. A DNA portrait is simply put, a photograph of your genes. Other DNA testing facilities have since offered DNA portraiture as a service.

The process begins from your cheek cells and ends in a canvas. You order a DNA collection kit which includes a cotton swab for collecting saliva from the inside of your cheek, and send it off along with your preferred color combinations. Bio technicians will extract your unique DNA sequence from your swab and graphic artists will render it in your desired color scheme. The final product is distantly reminiscent of Mark Rothko’s coloured paint swathes, and just as worthy to display on a gallery wall.
