7 Stupidest Things To Have Ever Happened In Space

2. Liquid Salt And Pepper

There are lighter sides to space travel however! If you can avoid the diseases, the internal suffering, the permanent cold and the alien invasions, then you can experience the joy of astronaut food! Recently, the fare has improved somewhat - now being actual food that humans can enjoy. Previously astronauts were subjected to powdered eggs and milk, rehydrated beans and the infamous astronauts ice cream, which is now sold at science based gift shops as an attempt to thin the population of inquisitive children around the world. Trust us, it's awful - as if going to the moon in a ship controlled by a computer less powerful than most calculators from the 90s was bad enough, they were given rubbish to eat. But all is not as bad as we make it out to be! There are definite and impressive upsides. At most meals at most restaurants, your table will be outfitted with once incredibly valuable but now common compounds, salt and pepper. Well, in space, particles of salt and pepper floating around and clogging up vital instruments is extremely dangerous and life threatening. So, as no astronaut was going to space without salt on their chips, the egg heads at NASA invented liquid salt and pepper which is now standard on every mission leaving our atmosphere. As you can see from the image above, there have been multiple occurrences of astronauts putting salt into their eyes, thinking the bottle contained eye drops.
