Last month Comcast (which operates both Universal Pictures and Universal Parks Resorts) spent $3.87 billion to purchase Dreamworks Animation.

Some huge animated movie franchises belong to Dreamworks Animation, most notably Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda. All of these have been big box office successes and would work well in a theme park setting.

One place that these characters would fit in well is Toon Lagoon.

Toon Lagoon is much in need of an update. Many younger visitors to Universal won't be aware of who some of the stars of this section are, neither will many non-American guests.

It has been a while since Popeye and Betty Boop were relevant in pop culture. Despite some good photo opportunities, most of the area is beginning to look a little tired and is the place people just walk through to get from Jurassic Park to Marvel's Superhero Island.

Using the familiar characters from Dreamworks Animation would bring that area of the park back to life. The movies would overlay quite well with some of the attractions already there. The Penguins from Madagascar would compliment Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Fall.

Typically Dreamworks animated movies are bright and colourful and would fit nicely in Toon Lagoon. It would also border well with Marvel's Super Hero Island.
