7 Times 'Modern Alternative Mama' Was So Stupid She Was Dangerous

6. Anti-vaccine Take Two

Kate’s legendary anti-vaccine and anti-pharmaceutical stance is getting a second page because there is just so much bullsh*t information, it would be too long to cover on just one page. There’s a reason why SciBabe calls her: “the most dangerous, ill-informed blogger dispensing misinformation on the internet”.

Kate is the pinnacle of mixed messages disguising a hidden agenda. Her September 22nd Facebook status for example, acknowledges the severity of Whooping cough and yet somehow still attempts to spin that fact of Whooping cough as severe illness, as a point in the favour of anti-vaccine advocates. This disease is severe, but taking steps to prevent infection in the first place is a bad idea. Logic, how does it work? She makes an ongoing habit of reinforcing the idea that you need to be fully informed and make your own decisions regarding your healthcare – fantastic right? Not when slipped into the mix is a steady stream of anti-medication propaganda, doctor bashing, and conspiracy theory scare-mongering misinformation (apparently, vaccines for Toxic Shock Syndrome are a crazy idea) designed solely to keep parents hanging onto her every word.

No amount of liability waiver can dismiss the fact that Kate’s words are directly impacting on parent’s choices in regards to their children’s healthcare. This image show a bunch of unlabelled pharmaceuticals capsules with random illnesses underneath – no other information to verify her claims. Next to the capsules are bunch of plants and vegetables with the words “No side effects” underneath – the take home message is clear, pharmaceutical intervention is bad and “natural” products are good”. Despite that fact that message is a logical fallacy refuted time and time and time and time again.

She promotes the use of supplements for conditions like ADHD, which are not only ineffective but will lead to your child struggling without proper support. She also advises against antibiotics treatment in favour of treatments that do not work against pathogenic bacteria. Sorry, not sorry but Streptococcus pneumonia, the bacteria responsible for Pneumococcal disease and the deaths of approximately 1.6 million children every year worldwide with 0.7–1 million of them being under the age of five, particularly in developing countries - Streptococcus pneumonia doesn’t give a sh*t about your red onions and garlic “remedies”, Kate, you twunt.

One would think in light of the above information and the sheer prevalence of data regarding the epidemiology and function of bacterial diseases, Kate would at least concede that science has a very firm understanding of how f*cked up contagious diseases are. Apparently not.

“There’s no possible way to argue realistically, that any child is in danger because they don’t have vaccines. Chances are, if they get sick, they’ll pull through just fine. They may not get sick. On the other hand, every vaccine injected poses an immediate risk”.

Because never mind protecting ourselves from pathogenic bacteria, let’s just all roll around in the dirt and pray they don’t invade us. Let's go back to the grand old days of dying of gum infection by the time you were 25. Good times.
