7 Times 'Modern Alternative Mama' Was So Stupid She Was Dangerous
4. Selling The Same Products She Demonises
I have a theory that being a promoter of science denial, you are required to have an online store. Food Babe has one. Mercola has one. David Wolfe has one. And Kate has one. I can understand the reasoning behind having an online store, if your entire modus operandi constants of scaring and lying to people about science, you should at least have something – a product or service, to soothe the fears you have instilled in them.
You can also make money.
Here’s a word of advice, if you’re going to demonise a product in order to sell your own – make sure your version doesn’t have the same ingredients you’re demonising. It’s just poor form.
Bad Science Debunked did a pretty good analysis of Kate’s little oversight regarding her article “Have You Gotten Your Sunscreen Yet This Summer?”, Kate has this to say about sunscreen ingredients:
“I’m not really comfortable with the physical blockers, like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. I know they are common in “natural” sunscreens and probably fine, but I just do not want to rub that on my children’s skin. I don’t know, I worry. Maybe that’s crazy.”
As BSD reveals, the product she is giving away – has Zinc Oxide! How did you miss that one? I thought mummy bloggers read every single little ingredient? Kate then warns against using sunscreens with Vitamin A in them while graciously providing us with her homemade recipe for sunscreen (for free) which that include products that are rich in Vitamin A.
Oops. Slow claps for you.
Did I mention that Kate hates the process of pasteurisation? So much so, in an attempt to arm her readers with advice on what they can and can't drink she links them to a recipe that includes products – wait for it – that have been pasteurised. Brilliant strategy.
She really needs to stop with the homemade recipes, the “natural” cleaning products she advised would get rid of mold? The mold that overtook her house to the point her family needed to move, must have missed that memo.
