Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, published in 1970 and written by Judy Blume, is largely considered one of the first examples of the young adult genre, a genre which is now incredibly popular (examples of famous YA books include the works of John Green, The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner series).

The book focuses on a girl named Margaret who grows up without religious affiliation. More importantly, it deals with the sorts of issues any girl Margaret’s age experiences, primarily the ones associated with puberty.

The banning of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret in multiple places stems mostly from the fact it was published in 1970.
