8 Crazy Mysteries That Were Solved On Reddit

7. Nail Through Wood

Although the consequences may not have been as dire as some of the other entries featured on this list, the conundrum surrounding the nail through wood was one of the most hotly debated topics on Reddit at one time.

It all started when a photo began circulating online of a block of wood carved into four sections with a nail driven through the middle two, but without piercing either of the others, in a way that appeared to defy explanation. The Redditor claimed that he hadn't made the piece himself, but rather had found it while out hiking.

However, the mystery was solved when a carpenter posted a video in response that showed exactly how the so-called impossible nail had been created. The man placed the end of the block in boiling water for a prolonged period to soften the wood so the end could be compressed, allowing the nail to be placed through, before he then soaked the end again in boiling water and returned to its original size.
