8 Crazy Mysteries That Were Solved On Reddit

5. The Modified Extension Cord

Skeleton Reddit Mystery
Reddit u/shadybusiness15

In 2013, a Reddit user by the name of u/shadybusiness15 posted an image of a component of their damaged extension cord on the subreddit r/whatisthisthing. The user explained that the extension cord had violently blown a fuse, and after taking it apart in an attempt to discern what had happened he had found a mysterious device. The image posted of the device showed a SIM card attached to something that many users on the subreddit pointed out was likely being used for surveillance.

The user then proceeded to move the investigation over to r/RBI, the Reddit Bureau of Investigation seeking more information. Redditors there were quick to point out that the device included a microphone and was almost certainly being used by someone to monitor the user.

What remains a mystery to this day is who was spying on u/shadybusiness15? The user claimed his parents were adamant that they had nothing to do with it, and without a warrant, they were unable to find out any record of the calls made by the device.
