8 Deadly Fighting Styles You've Probably Never Heard Of

4. Vale Tudo

Vale Tudo is Portuguese for "anything goes" or "no rules" (although there are actually a couple of rules), which gives you an idea what to expect from it. This underground fighting style can be traced pretty firmly to modern MMA, in which fighters were encouraged to bring their own styles to the table. It was not a sport in the sense that there were no leagues, champions or rules, and the spectacle was predominantly for the entertainment value. Although strong parallels are drawn between Vale Tudo and MMA, purists for the sport argue that this is doing the style a disservice, regarding MMA as a "soft option". Now, I don't want to tell you how to live your life or anything, but it's generally a good idea to stay out of the way of people who think MMA fighters are wimps.
