6. Carl Sagan
For those unfortunate enough not to be alive in the 80s, Carl Sagan was a noted astronomer, astrophysicist, astrobiologist, and expert on a bunch of other made up-sounding science things. He was also the original host of the Cosmos series, which makes him the predecessor to science personality and Twitter troll Neil Degrasse Tyson.
And like Tyson, Sagan shared some significant concerns about the future of our planet. In his last recorded interview, Sagan explained the need for more science education and the dangers of an anti-science government:
“If the general public doesn’t understand science and technology, then who is making all of the decisions about science and technology...members of congress? There are only a handful who have any background in science at all, and some of them don’t even want to know about it.”
He goes on to hit predict the state of modern society, especially as it pertains to our current form of government and the
“We’ve arranged a society on science and technology in which nobody understands anything about science and technology, and this combustible mixture of ignorance and power sooner or later is going to blow up in our faces."
