1. The Catholic Church: 'Aliens Exist, But Jesus Didn't Visit Them'

So, along with NASA, Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk, the, er, Catholic Church has waded in with a few opinions of their own.

In a move that could be described as a bit left-field, Father Jose Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory in Rome has stated that it is likely that there is or has been intelligent life elsewhere in the universe and that the existence of extraterrestrial life did not contradict Catholic doctrine or the bible.

This was following the discovery of the Earth-like exoplanet, Kepler 452b was discovered and just a mere 380 years since the Catholic Church condemned Galileo Galilei for arguing that the Earth was not the centre of the universe

He did, however, assure us that the aliens probably didn't get a visit from their friendly local Jesus, and that was a "unique event in history". So there's that cleared up.

Who knows, perhaps they had their own visitation at some point, and are sat around contemplating what our version of the son of God looked like.
