5. Mel Gibson Gets A DUI, Blames The Jews

At first despairing that his life was over, he became angry when told that he couldn't drive himself home and started on a drunken tirade against the Jews, proclaiming that they were responsible for all the wars in the world and asking the arresting officer if they were a Jew. Gibson has a history of alcoholism (apparently he started at the age of 13 and would have five pints of beer for breakfast before going to work on Lethal Weapon 2) and saying highly offensive things to people in public, so the backlash he received after this incident must have seemed a long time coming. Gibson made few public appearances after his initial round of apologies and began attending court-mandated self-help meetings.
