As most of us know, slugs are slimy little creatures that that resemble shell-less snails. What most people don't realize is that these little fellows also enjoy a good brew — or at least the smell of one.

Apparently, it's the sweet smell of yeast that attracts these critters to beer. Slugs often feed on decaying plant materials, like the yeast found in our favorite brew.

In fact, expert gardeners have been known to recommend using "beer traps" to help get rid of the pesky creatures. All that's required to create one of these potentially lethal traps is a small container and a bit of beer. As soon as they smell the yeast, the slugs will come slithering toward the containers, eventually fall in, and drown in a small pool of beer. It certainly makes for an interesting way to go.

Who would have thought that murdering slugs would turn out to be yet another great use for the versatile beverage known as beer?
