6. Manna From Heaven

Manna was a food that miraculously appeared in the desert and sustained the Israelites during their 40-year stint in the wilderness.

Accounts of manna are pretty inconsistent, but it tends to be either white or brown, seemed to appear overnight and quickly became foul and useless in the heat of the day.

To go with the range of accounts, there are also several theories pertaining to the true identity of manna. One of these is that they were actually magic mushrooms. The appearance is pretty similar to the biblical descriptions and 'shrooms have long been known to produce legitimate spiritual experiences in those who take them thanks to the active ingredient called psilocybin.

Whilst it is almost impossible to fatally overdose on magic mushrooms, it's unlikely that they alone would sustain a population of Israelites, neither does actively tripping balls usually aid in the business of desert-crossing. But, when combined with other manna-like substances, such as the sap from the tamarisk tree, plus some sneaky meat and dairy from the animals that accompanied them, it could be that the magic mushrooms sustained the Israelites in a spiritual, as well as physical, sense.
