8 More Science Facts To Make You Sound Clever At Parties
2."There Might Only Be One Electron In The Entire Universe"
This is a good one because it shows that (a) you know what an electron is (whoa there, Einstein) and (b) you like to wrestle with quantum thought experiments. Chicks dig guys (or whatever your chosen gender might be) who like to wrestle with quantum thought experiments. Physicist have always been a bit baffled by electrons due to the fact that they're all completely identical. It is actually, physically impossible to tell one electron from another based on its physical properties (if you can nail it down in the first place, but that's a whole different story). Anyway, one day, the famous physicist, Richard Feynman, received a phone call from John Wheeler, who claimed to have figured out why all electrons looked the same: Why, because they are all literally the same electron, of course. This electron travels backwards and forwards in time (not a problem in quantum mechanics FYI) so many times, that at any moment in time, we see it multiple times over. This would also mean that every electron in your body is the same one, and every electron in your morning coffee, and your dear old mum. To be clear, the general consensus from the scientific community on this is "probably not", but there's theoretically no reason why it shouldn't be true.
