8 Phobias That Are Guaranteed To Make You Feel Uncomfortable
2. Necrophobia
Necrophobia is a fear of dead things or anything associated with death. The list of death associations can include funerals, coffins, graveyards and tombstones as well as the most common - dead bodies. The fear is usually triggered at first by an event or belief, such as a close family member passing away or the curiosity with ghosts and the afterlife within a particular religion or religious text.
The sufferer can be scared of a multitude of situations which can cause the anxiety to flare, such as seeing someone die in a film or passing a dead animal on the side of the road. The fear is not yet recognised in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, but it is currently filed as a specific phobia, as the person will fear the situation and objects surrounding death.
The diagnosed person with the fear disorder is often fixated on death with themselves or someone close to them as well as dead related things. It is different to Thanatophobia, which takes the form of an extreme fear surrounding dying itself - this is most commonly referred to as death anxiety.
