8 Scientific Reasons Why You're Having One Of Those Days

7. Your Toast Lands Butter Side Down

So you've poured coffee all over your table and saved the day with some butter, but your breakfast related troubles are far from over.

It might seem like an old wives' tale, but it turns out that toast really is more likely to land butter side down - between 62 and 81% more likely in fact. This has nothing to do with the fact that the buttered side is heavier, or that the universe just hates you, and has everything to do with the height from which it is dropped.

Toast dropped from the average table or hand height will not have enough time to complete a full rotation before it hits the floor and will land butter side down. Scientists have calculated that you would need to drop it from a height of around three metres before it could complete a full 360.

So, you could either commit to always eating your toast at the top of a ladder in future or, alternatively, you could simply hold it upside down while you're eating it.
